Kate M. Blomquist (b. Milwaukee, WI) received an MFA in Visual Art from the Mason Gross School of Arts at Rutgers University and a BA in Visual Art from the University of Chicago.

Kate paints impermanence. Her work focuses on the passage of time, entropy, and personal history. The materials chosen to work with — oil paint on aluminum, 16mm film, cyanotype — are active, resistant surfaces where image, substrate, and light interact to provoke feelings of longing, loss, and the transient quality of memory.

Kate’s work has been exhibited at MITTE Projects, NYC: Regina Rex, NYC; SPRING/BREAK, NYC; Knockdown Center, Maspeth, Queens; Liz Lidgett Gallery, Des Moines, IA; and Woman Made Gallery, Chicago, IL, among others. She has attended residencies at Vermont Studio Center, SPACE on Ryder Farm, and Tilleard Projects Residency in Lamu, Kenya.
